Hi Andrew, I assume that if you look in the courselab folders pre-publishing that you can find the pictures there?
I'd try opening the published folder, it will be a zipped set of files. Windows can open this as a compressed folder from XP onwards so you don't need winzip, winrar or other software.
Browse through it and see if you can actually find the images as it sounds like they might not be there!
You do sometimes get glitches with the publishing where some files just don't get included. It seems uncommon and random though without any real clear cause or reason.
If you are missing the files in the published version then I'd reopen the module to edit and just hit the update module option from the drop down menu, it's under module. This should refresh the internal manifest that courselab maintains and the files should appear when you republish.
