I want to penalise users for selecting a wrong answer by awarding a minus point. Question score setup allows for point allocation on correct answers only. Has anyone experience of what I am trying to achieve?

Simple... Apply an action to the question object that passes a -1 score to the master score variable.
You want an 'on failure' action.
The rest is up to you.
