IE6 sound problem
  View type:
Hi, just a quick question,
Don't know if anyone had this problem before but, runing a module throught my company LMS, I can't hear the sound files (as actions) in the computers with IE6, but can hear them in IE7, the main problem is that the 80% of the company uses IE6.
Is there a way to fix it without upgrading the browser?
Ty in advance

From a Web developers perspective it's unfortunate that all of the Explorer range are flawed goods, the level and depth just depends on the version. 7 is an improvement in a lot of areas but it was desperately needed as MS realised the numbers of people moving away from their product to Firefox (28% of all window users). It is however still a dog no matter how nicely wrapped. I can spend hours meeting a clients desire for a web page then spend twice as long patching the html and css to accommodate IE's vagaries so they work as they should. [] Rant over LOL
So I'd think that the fault is most probably an IE6 OR maybe windows installation issue but fixing it?
1. What kind of file are you trying to play and which codec does it use?
2. How are you making these sound files, what utility or software?
3. As you're using this in a corporate environment the installs should largely be the same(ish). Do the user rights at system level extend to allowing the OS to pick up new codecs to decode the files?

Hopefully the corporate nature of installs should give you a fairly level playing field, so you only need to solve it once for it to work everywhere on 6 & 7.
Can you try playing the sound file as a stand alone on one of the boxes with IE6 and see what happens??
Nick
