I am trying to create a course where participants can discuss the content in forums as they progress through the slides.

I know that Moodle offers discussion forums but these are separate from the course content itself. I want to find a way to embed forums within the actual slideshow so that the students can be kept within the simple frame work of the course, rather than having to go back and fourth between different sections.

I've not had much look searching Google for this as you tend to just get results from forums about general embedding.

Does anyone know how this might be done using courselab or additional software?

OK so what you are trying to do is to insert or display what is typically a server based PHP coded, SQL database backend web application in a SCORM document. There are numerous problems with this as an idea, essentially it is a non starter.
You might be able to embed this in an iframe object though.
