PowerPoint Import not working
  View type:
Purchased, installed and activated PowerPoint import pack. When I run the wizard, it allows me to browse and select a file to import, but when I click NEXT, all I get is the mouse arrow flashes an hourglass 2 times, then it just sits there.

I have PowerPoint installed on my machine, version 2003 for XP.
[]
Help?

Hi, Jason,

This is quite unusual, PPT files should be imported as is, without saving as HTML. Possible reason could be:
a) PowerPoint is installed without DCOM module (which allows other application to get access to PPT files). It is common Microsoft library and it is always installed by default - unless explicitly switched off when installing PowerPoint|Office. Please revise installation settings o MS Office Common Components.
b) This DCOM object is broken some way - then you may need to reinstall Office Common components.
c) Access to MS Common components is forbidden (not enough user privileges).
d) Presentation contains some features that leads to crash. But in this case some other presentations should be imported.

I don't have the import utility, most powerpoint 'learning' material is deadly and rather featureless.. not really suitable as immersive e-learning material which of course it was never designed to do.
I'd suggest try saving for an earlier version as M$ keep doing nasty things to the way it's saved. Also check for anything in the presentation that isn't using 100% vanilla out of the box install features.
If they can't maintain compatibility between versions of Office then how is an import utility supposed to cope with it??

What version of PP was the import pack designed for? If I cannot get it to work, can I get a refund? If it is so unlikely that it will work and is obviously not supported well, it should be removed from the website and unlisted as a add-on.

I got it to work by saving the PPT files into the HTML format (presentation.html) under SAVE AS in PowerPoint. No version of PPT files would import at all. I tried saving a raw presentation with only default text in all versions of PPT and PPS, and it would not work. When I saved as HTML, it imported and worked correctly. These instructions should be included in the manual so people don't think they have been ripped off when they download the pack and it doesn't work with actual PowerPoint file types. If anyone has successfully imported the PowerPoint file types, I would love to know how you made it work.

Thanks,
Jason

What is imported Jason?
Just text and images? Transitions? Timelines?
It would be helpful for others to know just what works and doesn't.
