Historically I've used 2.4 for some courses, however there are clearly cross-browser issues especially between Windows and Mac. It appears the PAID version has better browser support. I export to SCORM.

Is the update method simply open up the 2.4 created content in 2.7 and republish to SCORM?

Basically yes, you open the version made with 2.4 and it then works (exclusively) with 2.7. Then you can do what you want with it as far as publishing goes.
You can't convert back.

Check the output works OK in the current IE as it has changed how it handles things, you may still need to add the instructions to use a specific compatibility mode by hand. Not sure if this has been rectified in the current release.
